Louisville City FC traveled away from home for the first time last weekend. The lads traveled 102 miles away from Louisville to Nippert Stadium to meet their biggest rival, FC Cincinnati. Last season the teams met four times, three in regular season and once in third round of the Open Cup. The rivalry between the two teams has become quite heated from time to time bringing out the most passionate of fans from each side and drawing record breaking crowds.
With the weather starting to turn cold the Bailey marched into Nippert taking their spot behind the North end goal. A group of the Louisville City faithful took their places not far from the Bailey. The yelling back and forth between the supporter’s groups began before the whistle and didn’t end til the final blow.
LouCity attacked the Bailey side first and wasn’t remotely intimidated. The USL Champions pressed high as the game went on with several shots far of the goal and on. In the 13th minute, Cameron Lancaster, galloped forward, taking advantage of a missed cleared ball by FCC, and found the threads in the net drawing the first blood. Paco Craig burst into the goal and cleared a shot from FCC when Greg stepped off his line.
The second half was filled by much pressing from FC Cincinatti. By the end of the second half FCC had almost completely dominated the USL Champions. LouCity’s back line and goalie showed them why they were the champs, thwarting every attempt they made. This only frustrated them more. At the sound of the final whistle, the score stood at 1-0 with the visitors as the victors. LouCity handed FCC their first defeat in their season opening game at Nippert Stadium.
Louisville City FC are looking continue their undefeated streak this week with a game at Slugger Field against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday.
