On June 16, 2018 a crowd gathered at Churchill Downs on a humid Kentucky night. The reason? Justify would be paraded for the last time before heading back to his home track of Santa Anita. The heat didn’t keep the people away as they crowded into the paddock to see the Triple Crown winner for the last time at the famed Kentucky track. Justify was lead over in between the third and fourth races. The chestnut colt was lead over by Eduardo Luna, his groom, and was accompanied by Jimmy Barnes, Baffert’s assistant trainer and Humberto Gomez, Justify’s exercise jockey. Bob Baffert, Justify’s trainer, met them in the packed paddock.
Justify was ears up as he came through the tunnel into the paddock. The spectators pushed in, fumbling over each other to see the young champion. The Baffert colt was lead into the saddling stall where they took off his Triple Crown blanket and cooled him down. Barnes, Gomez and Luna then proceeded to parade Justify around the paddock. Justify would pause here and there along the way for the many photographers. His ears would swish forward as he watched the crowd. The big brown eyes swept the crowd not missing anything. He heard all the cries for him to turn their way, he heard them yelling at the media to move so they would have good pictures. Justify knew they were all there for him and he pleased them all.
